Empowering Digital Citizenship: Eveminet’s Pivotal Role in Shaping a Safer Online Future for Learners

The digital age presents unparalleled opportunities for learning and connection, but it also demands urgent attention to online safety. Recognising this, Eveminet took an active role in the landmark stakeholder engagement workshop held at the Pan Pacific Hotel from February 12–14, 2025. Organised by UNICEF, the Ministry of Education (MoE), and other key bodies, this collaborative effort brought together consultants from diverse sectors—including NGOs, ICT experts, and community-based organizations—to review and refine a comprehensive online safety curriculum. The goal? To create an inclusive, evidence-based framework that equips learners, educators, and parents with the tools to navigate digital spaces responsibly.

Eveminet’s Contributions: Bridging Gaps, Elevating Voices.

As a leader in innovative educational solutions, Eveminet championed strategies that prioritise accessibility, engagement, and real-world applicability.

Here’s how our participation by our Business Development Manager Hosea Ogari shaped the outcomes of this critical initiative:

Advocating Interactive, Scenario-Based Learning.
During Day 1’s review of learner-focused modules (Modules 1–5), Eveminet emphasized the need for dynamic, hands-on learning methodologies. We pushed for integrating role-playing exercises, digital simulations, and peer-led group discussions into the curriculum. These methods, aligned with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and IGCSE standards, ensure learners not only grasp theoretical concepts but also practice resolving real-world dilemmas—from cyberbullying to data privacy. By cultivating  critical thinking and empathy, these approaches prepare learners to thrive in both local and international digital environments.

  1. Driving Inclusive Design for Diverse Communities

A recurring theme across all three days was the need for universal accessibility. On Day 3, as stakeholders reviewed modules for parents and caregivers (Modules 1–6), Eveminet highlighted the challenges faced by families outside urban centers. Many lack consistent internet access or familiarity with digital tools. To address this, we advocated for content that is linguistically diverse, culturally relevant, and adaptable to low-tech environments. For instance, offline resources and community workshops will complement online modules, ensuring no parent is left behind in safeguarding their child’s digital journey.

  1. Strengthening Educator Capacity

Day 2’s deep dive into teacher training modules (Modules 1–9) underscored the importance of empowering educators as frontline advocates for online safety. Eveminet proposed embedding continuous professional development  into the curriculum, including tools for monitoring learner’s well-being and facilitating open dialogues about digital ethics. By equipping teachers/educators with scenario-based lesson plans and collaborative platforms, we enable them to model responsible digital citizenship in classrooms.

  1. Strengthen Multi-Stakeholder Collaboration

The workshop’s structure – dedicating each day to learners, educators, and parents—mirrored Eveminet’s belief in holistic, community-driven solutions.  During plenary feedback sessions, we facilitated cross-sector dialogues, ensuring voices from NGOs, rural/peri-Urban CBOs, and ICT experts informed the final curriculum. For example, insights from UNICEF’s global expertise merged seamlessly with grassroots perspectives to create balanced content that respects local contexts while meeting international safety standards.

  1. Closing the Loop: Feedback and Sustainability

Eveminet also emphasised the importance of iterative improvement. Feedback forms for all modules (a key deliverable) will gather insights from end-users, allowing continuous refinement. This aligns with our commitment to data-driven solutions that evolve alongside technological advancements and emerging risks and threats.

A Unified Vision for a Safer Digital Future

The workshop’s closing remarks celebrated a shared achievement: a curriculum that transcends geography and socio-economic status to protect and empower young digital citizens. Eveminet is honored to have contributed to this milestone, which reflects our core mission—leveraging innovation and inclusivity to build safer futures.

As we move forward, we remain dedicated to supporting the rollout of these modules, ensuring they reach every classroom, home, and community. Together with partners like UNICEF, the MoE, and dedicated NGOs, we are not just teaching online safety—we are nurturing a generation of confident, conscientious digital citizens.
