Nairobi, Kenya – November 4, 2024 – In an exciting move toward building a secure, responsible, and digitally literate online environment for Kenyan internet users, the Kenya Network Information Centre (KeNIC) and Eveminet Communication Solutions Limited have formalised a strategic partnership. Through a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the two organisations aim to create a collaborative framework that promotes safe internet practices, enhances digital literacy, and strengthens Kenya’s digital infrastructure.

This MoU is set to bolster the impact of .KE domains while empowering users with the knowledge and skills necessary for safe and informed online engagement. KeNIC and Eveminet are dedicated to advancing the following shared goals:

Key Objectives of the Partnership

1. Promoting Safe and Responsible Use of .KE Domains The partnership will raise awareness of safe internet practices associated with .KE domains, encouraging responsible online behaviour among Kenyan users. By fostering a culture of security and responsibility, this initiative aims to make the Kenyan digital landscape safer and more secure.

2. Developing Educational Programs on Digital Literacy, Online Safety , and Domain Management In a bid to equip Kenyans for safer online interactions and experiences, KeNIC and Eveminet will jointly create educational programs focused on digital literacy, online safety, and domain management. These programs will empower users of all ages (bridging the digital age gap) with essential digital skills, fostering a more digitally capable and responsible nation.

3. Sharing Expertise and Resources in Child Online Safety, Digital Well-being, and Domain Administration Leveraging the combined expertise of KeNIC and Eveminet, this partnership will produce resources geared toward child online safety, digital well-being, and effective domain management. The emphasis on protecting young internet users is critical, as it helps shape a generation that understands the value of safe digital engagement.

4. Advocating for Policies to Strengthen Online Safety and Kenya’s Domain Infrastructure To further enhance Kenya’s online security, both organisations will advocate for policies that support a resilient and safe digital environment. By strengthening Kenya’s domain infrastructure, KeNIC and Eveminet aim to safeguard the integrity of the .KE ecosystem and address emerging digital challenges.
